What to bring to your Social Security appointment
Bringing the right documents can save you a second trip. Confirm what your specific appointment needs with the Social Security Administration, since requirements vary by task.
A government-issued photo ID, such as a driver's license, state-issued ID, or U.S. passport.
Original documents, or copies certified by the agency that issued them. The Social Security Administration cannot accept photocopies or notarized copies.
For a replacement card, proof of your identity and, if needed, your U.S. citizenship or immigration status.
For a name change, a document that proves the legal change, such as a marriage certificate or court order.
For direct deposit of benefits, your bank account and routing numbers.
