We publish and verify a structured directory of Social Security field offices. As of this edition we list 1,142 published offices across the lower 48 states and Washington, DC. The figures below are computed from that dataset, not estimated.

Alongside the published offices, our dataset holds 3 officeslisted in SSA’s data that we have not yet published. 2of these are listed in SSA’s data but show no operating hours; we are verifying them before they go live. We hold a page back rather than publish a listing we cannot stand behind.
Methodology
Our office records come from the Social Security Administration’s official open data extract of field office addresses and open/close times, published for application developers and drawn from the same internal system that feeds the SSA office locator. We geocode each address, derive its county, and diff every run against our database.
Changes land in a review file for a person to approve, never silently in production. An office missing hours or a phone number stays unpublished and flagged until we verify it, which is why the published count is lower than the raw extract. We check the extract monthly and expect real changes roughly quarterly, in step with SSA’s own cadence. Population figures, where shown, come from the Census Bureau and SSA statistical series and are refreshed annually.
